C.J. Stroud declares for 2023 NFL draft

C.J. Stroud declared for the 2023 NFL draft. Future Colts QB?

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud officially declared for the 2023 NFL draft ahead of Monday’s deadline for underclassmen, giving the Indianapolis Colts another option to consider at the end of April.

Though the Colts are far from having their draft board finalized, Stroud is expected to be near the top of it. There’s a chance he’s a blue chip prospect for the Colts.

Sitting with the No. 4 overall pick, the Colts have some options to consider. They can try to move up to the No. 1 overall pick, which is currently held by the Chicago Bears, to ensure they get exactly who they want. Or they could stay put at No. 4 and take one of the perceived top four options.

Every quarterback in this class has some big question marks. Stroud’s profile is strong, but there are questions about his play outside of structure and his ability to extend plays outside the pocket. He showed he has the ability in the College Football Playoff game against Georgia, but it’s something we hadn’t seen often from Stroud.

In two seasons as the starter (25 games), Stroud completed 69.3% of his passes for 8,123 yards, 85 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also added 80 carries for 136 rushing yards.

We’ll see just how much the Colts want Stroud over the next few months, but he’s the expected pick at this point in the offseason.
