Patriots sign former CFL cornerback to reserve/future contract for 2023

The New England Patriots signed a former CFL cornerback to a reserve/future contract on Thursday.

The New England Patriots announced on Thursday they had signed defensive back Rodney Randle to a reserve/future deal for 2023.

Randle has spent his football career both in the CFL and NFL. He played in 19 games with the Montréal Alouettes in 2021 and 2022. He tallied 44 tackles, 11 special teams tackles, and two interceptions. He played in the XFL with the Tampa Bay Vipers in the 2020 season, and also spent time in the NFL with the San Diego Chargers in 2019.

Randle played at Lamar University for four seasons, beginning in 2015. During his time with the school, he appeared in 41 games and recorded 170 tackles, one sack, and five interceptions in 29 starts.

This could be an important depth move for New England, as they have decisions to make in their secondary.

Several players are free agents this offseason, including corners Jonathan Jones, Joejuan Williams, and Myles Bryant. Depth could be important, as New England decides what to do in free agency.
