As the old saying goes, “what’s meant to be will always find a way.”
In what has become a trend, the new-look Auburn staff is doing what the former staff could not do at times by closing the deal on top recruits. Hugh Freeze and staff did that again Sunday morning by earning the signature of former LSU linebacker [autotag]DeMario Tolan[/autotag].
Tolan was a strong Auburn target from the class of 2022 before deciding to take his talents to Baton Rouge. The four-star linebacker from Dr. Phillips High School in Central Florida signed with Auburn Sunda after spending his freshman season at LSU. He visited the Plains on Jan. 5, one day after entering the portal. While on his visit, he said that he felt Auburn would be a great fit for him.
“The highlight of my visit today was just the new staff and how well I feel like they’re going to be for me,” Tolan said. “Just overall I feel like it’d be a great place for me moving forward. I think that they’re at a great place — just a great coach. I feel like they’re going to be a perfect fit for me and just happy to have it be my first visit.”
Missouri and Colorado were also in the mix to earn his commitment, but Auburn won the sweepstakes. His commitment is the second in as many days from the transfer portal. Former Maryland DL Mosiah Nasili-Kite committed to Auburn Saturday, nearly 24 hours after visiting the Plains.
