Sean McVay ‘can’t say enough’ about the job Baker Mayfield has done

Sean McVay says he’s loved working with Baker Mayfield and can’t say enough about how impressive he’s been

Baker Mayfield was thrown into a tough spot when he was claimed off waivers by the Rams. He played in his first game with the team two days after being claimed and has started the three games since, but taking over an offense mid-season is never easy – especially an offense that’s had as much turnover as the Rams’.

Sean McVay has always been a fan of Mayfield from afar, but he’s gotten an up-close look at the quarterback in the last month and he couldn’t be more impressed by the way Mayfield has handled this situation.

Despite struggling in the Rams’ 31-10 loss to the Chargers on Sunday, McVay loves what he’s seen from Mayfield and has enjoyed working closely with him since he arrived.

“I think he’s a great competitor,” McVay said Sunday. “I really like the way that he’s gone about this. Really have enjoyed working with him. Very similar to what the temperature and tone’s been, looking forward to finishing this off the right way. But I can’t say enough about how impressed I’ve been with everything he’s done in such a short amount of time. He’s a stud.”

Mayfield was held without a touchdown pass for the first time as a Ram this week, going 11-for-19 with 132 yards and no scores. It wasn’t entirely his fault, though, and McVay recognized that he was put in some difficult spots.

Next week’s game against the Seahawks could very well be his last one with the Rams because this coming offseason, he’ll be a free agent in search of a starting job – which he won’t find in Los Angeles.
