WATCH: 49ers close out Raiders in OT thanks to big defensive stop

The 49ers defense struggled Sunday, but it came up with a huge stop in the biggest moment.

The 49ers closed out the Raiders in overtime thanks to their defense, which had struggled for most of Sunday. Defensive end Nick Bosa carried the left tackle back into QB Jarrett Stidham, who couldn’t follow through on his deep throw up the left sideline. The result was a fluttering ball that landed easily in the hands of safety Tashaun Gipson.

Gipson nearly iced the game himself. He raced up the right sideline before getting pushed out of bounds at the 7. A penalty on the Raiders on the return pushed the 49ers up to the 4, setting up a short Robbie Gould field goal for the win.

This is why San Francisco leans so heavily on its defense. Even on a day where they struggled badly, they still managed to come up with a stop in the game’s biggest moment.
