Fans are already chanting for Taylor Heinicke in the first half

It didn’t take long for the Heinicke chants to begin.

Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke is a fan favorite. So when head coach Ron Rivera benched Heinicke this week in favor of Carson Wentz, the fan base was split.

In the first quarter of Washington’s Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns, Wentz started by missing his first two passes of the game. His second attempt was intercepted by Browns cornerback Denzel Ward, giving Cleveland a first down in Washington territory.

Commanders’ fans let their voices be heard.

Washington’s defense held the Browns to a field goal.

The Commanders went back on offense, crossing the field into Cleveland territory, but a questionable coaching decision on fourth down gave the ball back to the Browns.

Washington’s defense again did its job.

The Commanders started another drive deep in their own territory. On third down, Wentz throws deep down the middle of the field into double coverage and is intercepted.

At this point, Wentz had two completions to Cleveland and two to Washington.

Fans began chanting for Heinicke again.

Will Wentz make it through the game?
