The Commanders will be without RB Antonio Gibson vs. Browns

The Commanders will be without a key offensive player vs. the Browns.

The Washington Commanders will be without running back/kick returner Antonio Gibson for the Week 17 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Washington listed Gibson as out on Friday’s final injury report with foot/knee injuries that head coach Ron Rivera labeled a “sprain.

Gibson has played in every game this season, averaging 13 touches per game on offense. Gibson is also Washington’s primary kick returner and has given a lift to that unit.

“They were doing a lot with him,” Rivera said Friday. “They actually, I believe they got him running in the hydro worksand, and it wasn’t wasn’t as fluid as we needed it to be.”

Gibson’s absence means an increased role for Jonathan Williams behind Brian Robinson Jr. in the backfield. Washington will also likely call up Jaret Patterson from the practice squad to provide depth. The Browns rank No. 25 against the run.

For the season, Gibson has rushed for 546 yards and three touchdowns and caught 46 passes for 353 yards and two touchdowns.

The Commanders currently hold a half-game lead for the NFC’s final playoff spot.
