Trevor Lawrence, Ross Matiscik sit out Wednesday practice

Quarterback Trevor Lawrence and long snapper Ross Matiscik sat out practice Wednesday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars held quarterback Trevor Lawrence out of practice Wednesday as he continues to work on getting his sprained toe back to 100 percent.

Long snapper Ross Matiscik was also kept out of practice, while four players — including pass rusher Travon Walker — were limited.

The Jaguars are playing the Houston Texans on New Year’s Day without much at stake, as they’ll meet the Tennessee Titans in Week 18 with the AFC South title on the line.

While the Titans appear set to rest much of their starting lineup on Thursday against the Dallas Cowboys, Jaguars coach Doug Pederson says it’ll be business as usual against the Texans with the full starting lineup ready to play.

Walker and Folorunso Fatukasi were both out last week in the Jaguars’ 19-3 win over the New York Jets.

On Tuesday, the Jaguars added veteran long snapper Garrison Sanborn to the practice squad and Pederson told reporters Wednesday that Matiscik is dealing with back spasms.

The Texans opted for a walkthrough rather than a practice Wednesday, but kept four players out, including offensive lineman Tytus Howard.

Howard was a first-round pick in 2019 and has started 52 games for the Texans over the last four years.
