The Cincinnati Bengals climbed up to the second overall spot in the power rankings before their showdown with the New England Patriots over the holidays.
That’s where they stay as the new year approaches.
The Bengals won their seventh straight, and while it wasn’t pretty, those in charge of power rankings didn’t find it as a reason to dip the team in the latest rankings.
USA Today’s Nate Davis keeps the Bengals at second overall ahead of Week 17:
“2. Bengals (2): They’ve got a path to the AFC’s No. 1 seed, and that starts with beating Buffalo in a massive Monday night matchup in Cincinnati.”
The Bengals next play the Buffalo Bills in a game with massive implications, both when it comes to playoff seeding and even in the MVP discussion as the Joe Burrow vs. Josh Allen discussion really gets started.
That game should be a classic on a Monday and if the Bengals win, there’s a chance they will obtain the top overall spot in power rankings. If not, the fall — in rankings at least — shouldn’t be too dramatic.
Either way, seven wins in a row has a way of making the power rankings fall in love with a team for at least one more week.
