If the Auburn Tigers are looking for a transfer quarterback, they’ll have to keep searching.
Texas quarterback Hudson Card, the third-highest ranked quarterback on 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings, decided on his new school Monday. It will not be Auburn.
He announced he intends to play for the Purdue Boilermakers in the Big Ten.
Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers beat out Card for the starter’s role in 2022, but he filled in when Ewers was injured in the team’s game against Alabama. Card threw for 928 yards, six touchdowns and an interception before Ewers returned to his starting role later in the season.
Hugh Freeze and his staff showed interest in quarterbacks Devin Leary and Grayson McCall, but those hopes aren’t materializing for the Plains. Leary ended up committing to Kentucky and McCall canceled his planned Auburn visit. Card was the next highest-ranked quarterback to pursue.
There is still plenty of time left in the offseason, so it remains to be seen if Auburn brings in a quarterback from the portal or sticks with Robby Ashford, who will be a redshirt sophomore.
