The Cincinnati Bengals had an absolutely wild finish against the New England Patriots during a win on Christmas Eve.
Turns out that was a sign of things to come.
As per usual, the Bengals were back on a plane after the 1 p.m. ET kickoff, this time with the hopes of getting home on time before Christmas tomorrow.
But according to WLWT’s Mark Slaughter, Cincinnati’s plane from Boston had a failing engine, so the flight was diverted to JFK Airport, where they made a landing in order to change planes.
Slaughter shared a message he received from somebody on the flight itself:
The #Bengals flight from Boston had a failing engine so they landed at JFK and are changing planes as I tweet this, WOW
A person on board told me “A little rough but it was okay! Landed safely”
This really is a #Cincinnati Christmas Miracle

Others confirmed:
The #Bengals flight home indeed had to make an emergency diversion to JFK due to engine trouble.
All is well as they landed at JFK and are in the process of switching planes.
Looks like the game vs NE wasn’t the only surprising close call today. @MarkVSlaughter had it first

As of this writing, the team still awaits a new plane. An unfortunate development, though one that seems quite fitting given how the day has gone for the Bengals.
Update: Joe Danneman of Fox 19 updated the situation:
An update on the #Bengals trip home.
The team is about to board the second plane to make their way back to Cincinnati. https://t.co/U4G31ymQeC
