PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers were not challenged much in Wednesday’s 113-93 win over the Detroit Pistons. They led by as many as 21 and every time the Pistons made a little run to try and get back into it, Philadelphia would hit back and squash any hope they had and they improved to 6-0 on this 7-game homestand.
The Sixers received balanced scoring on the night as Joel Embiid had 22 points, Tobias Harris had 17, James Harden had 15, and the Sixers received double-digits from Montrezl Harrell and Georges Niang as well.
“We got the lead and kinda held it,” said coach Doc Rivers. “We played OK after that. It was one of those games. You get the win, you move on, and get ready for the next game. Everybody came out healthy which is key.”
Against a Pistons team still trying to find its way, playing “OK” was all the Sixers really needed to do in this one. Over the course of an 82-game season, there will be nights when the competition is not great and there must be motivation from within to get a win.
“We know winning is hard in the NBA and each and every night, you’re gonna be presented with a different matchup, a different opportunity, but for our group right now, it’s just staying focused and staying locked into the goal, and try to continue to string more and more wins,” said Harris. “I thought we did a great job of that tonight just coming out and playing our game.”
Philadelphia was stifling defensively in the second half as they held Detroit to just 29.8% shooting. The Sixers weren’t much better at 38.6%, but the defense was able to be enough to get it done.
“We locked in defensively,” said Embiid. “Especially, in the second half and then offensively, we moved the ball pretty well and we didn’t make as many shots as we wanted, but we got the win.”
