Boston Celtics rookie J.D. Davison neared a triple-double Monday on assignment with the Maine Celtics in a win over the South Bay Lakers in the NBA G League.
Davison produced 14 points, a career-high 10 rebounds, eight assists, one steal and one blocked shot in the 112-106 win. He finished by shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line in 33 minutes off the bench.
The 53rd pick registered his first double-double and narrowly missed out on only the 10th triple-double in the G League this season. He provided a tremendous spark off the bench to help the Celtics upset the top-seeded Lakers at the G League Winter Showcase in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Davison, who is signed to a two-way contract, is averaging 13.8 points, six assists and 4.8 rebounds on 48.1% shooting from the field in 17 games with Maine. He has scored in double figures in all but three games and has hit a season-high 20 points three times.
The 20-year-old has totaled eight minutes across three appearances with Boston this season. The team is prioritizing his development and has opted to mostly keep him in the G League with playing time at a premium with the parent club.
Davison has shown flashes of being a regular contributor in the NBA and looks to continue to develop and improve in Maine. The team has found great success in the past with its G League affiliate and will be looking to continue that with Davison.
