Auburn misses out on QB transfer target to SEC team

It appears the two top QB transfer targets are off the board for Auburn.

Auburn will have to keep looking for its transfer quarterback.

Former North Carolina State quarterback Devin Leary, who entered the transfer portal on Dec. 5, has decided to join the SEC, but not with the Tigers as coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and his staff may have hoped. Instead, Leary announced on Tuesday he is committing to the Kentucky Wildcats to play for head coach Mark Stoops.

The Tigers attempted to win Leary’s favor with an official visit, the second one he took after visiting with Kentucky. Losing out on Leary doesn’t bode well for Auburn if it wants to get a quarterback from the portal. Options for the team are running out after a recently scheduled visit with Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall fell through.

Leary threw 62 touchdowns to 16 interceptions over the course of his tenure at North Carolina State. With him off the board and McCall no longer visiting, it appears as if Auburn will miss on the two top quarterback transfers in 2023 according to 247Sports. The third-best quarterback in the rankings would be former Texas quarterback Hudson Card, who has yet to scheduled any official visits.
