Doc Rivers calls for explanation from officials after Sixers beat Raptors

Philadelphia 76ers coach Doc Rivers calls for an explanation from the officials after a late foul call in a win over the Toronto Raptors.

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers led by three in overtime 104-101 over the Toronto Raptors as they looked to put this game away. The Sixers then got Tobias Harris an open look from deep which he drilled while being fouled by Toronto forward Scottie Barnes.

The Raptors then challenged the call and the officials overturned it after review to an offensive foul on PJ Tucker. The officials ruled that Tucker pushed Barnes into Harris and it wiped off what would have been his 7th triple of the night off the board.

The Sixers were able to knock off the Raptors 104-101 in overtime, but coach Doc Rivers was very confused after and he called for an explanation from the officials.

“I still don’t understand the call,” said Rivers. “That will have to be explained to me. Going by the rule book that I read, I don’t get that call. Somebody’s gonna have to explain that. Maybe they’re right.”

The biggest confusion is that the Tucker play happened a play before the Harris shot. They were looking at the foul on Barnes and not anything to do with what Tucker did or did not do.

If anything, it should have been a no-call on Barnes, wipe off the Harris triple, and then have it be a jump ball. Not an offensive foul on Tucker.

“You can’t go back two plays in a play,” Rivers added. “The foul was on PJ under the basket on the pick under the basket, right? The guy ran out and fouled Tobias. That should have nothing to do with the play. That’s a second action. They missed the first one. You can’t call that. That’s not what the call was. The call was on the second action. Unless you can tie those together—maybe you can. I just need that explained to me.”

Either way, the Sixers did win the game and they will look to keep things going when they host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
