What started as the most impressive performance of the season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quickly devolved into yet another embarrassing loss Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Bucs built up a 17-0 lead in the first half, but gave up 34 straight points in their way to a 34-23 defeat.
Tom Brady committed turnovers on four consecutive drives in the third quarter, giving the Bengals short fields that turned into quick scores, erasing a three-score advantage.
After holding Joe Burrow in check in the first half, the Bucs watched the NFL MVP candidate toss four touchdown passes in the second half (each of them to a different player), while Tampa Bay’s own offense was shut out in the final two quarters.
Brady’s third touchdown pass of the game, his second to wide receiver Russell Gage, ended the Bengals’ streak of 34 unanswered points in the final minute of the game, but it was too late for the Bucs to mount another dramatic comeback.
Despite the loss, and a 6-8 record, the Bucs still remain in first place in the NFC South with three games left to play.
