Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy facing fine but no suspension after outburst

Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy won’t be suspended for Sunday’s outburst, according to NFL Network, but he is facing large fines.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy removed his helmet on the field and made contact with an official during Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Both of those actions could have been penalized, and bumping an official could have resulted in an ejection.

Because the receiver was surprisingly not ejected or even penalized, there was some speculation this week that he might face a suspension, but NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday that Jeudy won’t miss any games. He will face fines, though.

“The NFL won’t suspend #Broncos WR Jerry Jeudy for his outburst in Sunday’s loss to the #Chiefs, but he’s facing fines for multiple violations,” Pelissero tweeted earlier this week.

The NFL typically hands out fines on Friday, so Jeudy will learn exactly how much he owes later this week.

Jeudy explained after the game that he thought a defender should have been flagged for holding him, and he acknowledged that he needs to control his temper.

“I was just — on that certain play, I got held,” Jeudy said. “I was just frustrated because we didn’t have things going, so I was out there playing with frustration wanting to make a play for my team. I feel like at that point, I was just held and that should’ve been called but I have to know how to control my anger and just move on from there.”

Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett quickly spoke to the receiver about the incident.

“I didn’t see it happen on the field,” Hackett said Monday. “I was told by the referee that it had happened, so I went to address it right away and talk with him. He definitely knew that he was wrong. That’s unacceptable. You can’t do that. We’ve addressed that and I know that he knows he can’t do that. I know he was very frustrated at the time, but that’s just something you can’t do.”

Jeudy went on to have a big game, catching three touchdown passes after the incident, but he’ll have to pay for the outburst this week.
