Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving said after his team’s 112-100 win over the Washington Wizards on Monday that the team has no more excuses as they pursue a championship this season. Brooklyn has had its share of drama over the years and it was always something that distracted the team from its ultimate goal.
The same theme happened this season. The Nets fired Steve Nash after a 2-5 start, the team was linked to Ime Udoka despite his suspension from the Boston Celtics, and Irving got himself into some trouble by tweeting a link to a film full of antisemitic rhetoric.
However, with the Nets on a four-game winning streak and winning eight of nine, it seems like Brooklyn understands that they need to lock it in if they want to realize their championship aspirations. Irving gave his take on how the rest of this season will play out:
“Man, let’s just go ball games. That’s it. That’s really what the attitude is. Let’s go win ball games. We know the talent we have. This is our group. No more excuses, no more distractions, no more throwing in surprise injuries. We just want everybody to be healthy.”
The Nets’ next game is Friday at the Toronto Raptors.
