As the eighth week of the NBA regular season passes, Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid and New Orleans Pelicans rising star Zion Williamson took home NBA players of the week honors for their respective conferences. Both had dominant performances, but no one played as well as Joel Embiid did for the Sixers last week.
Embiid averaged 43.3 points per game and 10.3 boards. He shot better than 60% from the field. The Sixers went 2-1 for the week. His numbers were bolstered by his massive game against the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday. He tallied 53 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He shot well above 50% and added 11 free throws.
The Sixers definitely needed his dominance without young phenom Tyrese Maxey, who is still at least a week away from returning.

After a tough start to the season for both Embiid and the Sixers, they are trending in the right direction. They are fifth in the Eastern Conference just behind scorching-hot Brooklyn and ahead of the Atlanta Hawks.
