Heading into their Week 14 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Miami Dolphins had an 87% chance of making the postseason, according to FiveThirtyEight.
A win in the contest would’ve boosted their odds to 97%, but, with a loss, the Dolphins’ chances of playing after Week 18 have dropped significantly – down to just 73%.
Miami’s offense needs to perform much better than they have over the last two weeks if they want to make a run and do something that they haven’t done since 2016.
Monday night’s game between the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals could impact the Dolphins even more. If Bill Belichick’s team wins, Miami would drop to just a 70% chance of a postseason birth. A 17% swing in one week would be hurtful, especially when considering Mike McDaniel’s group will take on the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.
