LSU hasn’t seen many departures via the transfer portal so far, but they did lose one starter in the secondary on Wednesday afternoon.
Nickel [autotag]Jay Ward[/autotag] announced that he will be entering the 2023 NFL draft. In four years, Ward totaled 156 tackles (102 solo), 17 pass breakups, six interceptions and two forced fumbles. The senior from Moultrie Georgia appeared in 45 games with 22 starts.
“My time in Baton Rouge has been special, but I have reached a point in my career where I have to make a decision about my future,” Ward said in his announcement post on Twitter. “I will be pursuing a lifelong dream and declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft.”

Ward began the year at safety, but he was eventually moved to the nickel position, where he found more success. His departure for the draft isn’t a surprise, but it illustrates a need the Tigers will face in the secondary once again this offseason.
