The Gators are one of seven teams left in the recruiting race for 2024 four-star defensive back [autotag]Peyton Woodyard[/autotag] out of St. John Bosco in Bellflower, California, according to 247Sports.
Florida made the cut on Sunday along with Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon and USC. Woodyard said that he’ll be focusing on those programs moving forward and that he’ll be deciding among them on Jan. 7 at the All-American Bowl.
Although he hasn’t been to the Swamp just yet, Woodyard has a favorable impression of UF and is high on the new coaching staff despite a 6-6 finish to the season.
“Florida is the one school I haven’t been to yet but I’m going to visit when our season is over. I’ve heard great things and I know I’ll like it there. Patrick Toney is a great coach and they run the same defense we do here at Bosco. I’ve had great conversations with coach Napier as well and I think I would fit in well there.”

Woodyard wants to be able to focus on his senior year, which explains the early commitment, but most who follow high school recruiting know that the phone calls and texts don’t stop until the pen is put to paper. If Florida can get him on campus over the next few months, it could end up adding an elite defensive back to the class of 2024.
Woodyard is ranked No. 29 overall on the 247Sports composite and No. 2 among safeties in the class. The On3 consensus has him a bit lower at No. 34 nationally, but he still holds the No. 2 spot among those at his position.
