The U.S. men’s national team has unveiled its starting lineup for its World Cup opener against Wales.
Amid fitness concerns, Sergiño Dest was given the nod at right back over options like Shaq Moore and DeAndre Yedlin, with Antonee Robinson at left back.
The question of who will partner Walker Zimmerman at center back was answered, at least for Monday’s game, with Tim Ream. The Fulham center back, who has not played for the USMNT since September 2021, will go straight into the back line as a starter.
The MMA midfield of Tyler Adams, Yunus Musah, and Weston McKennie is in place, with the latter also shaking off any fitness concerns after not playing since late October.
At 19, Musah is the youngest player and first teenager to start a World Cup game for the USMNT.
Up top, Josh Sargent will get the nod with Christian Pulisic and Tim Weah on the wings. Sargent was preferred to Haji Wright and Jesús Ferreira after a hot start to the season with Norwich City.
