While his jump pass for a touchdown to Austin Hooper may be the lasting memory from the Tennessee Titans’ 27-17 victory in Green Bay on Thursday, Derrick Henry quietly achieved two more rushing milestones.
With his four-yard run in the second quarter, the Titans’ superstar running back tallied his 10th touchdown of the season, joining LaDainian Tomlinson (nine), Adrian Peterson (seven), Shaun Alexander (five) and Michael Turner (five) as the only players in NFL history to rush for at least 10 touchdowns in five consecutive seasons.
Not only did Henry tally his 10th touchdown, but he also eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the year. With the achievement, he joined Eddie George (seven seasons), Chris Johnson (six) and Earl Campbell (five) as the franchise’s only players with at least four 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
Henry carried the ball 28 times for 87 yards on Thursday.
He also continued making contributions in the passing game — something we discussed after Henry reached the 1,000-yard career receiving milestone — with two catches for 45 yards.
I would imagine Henry’s mantle is getting full at this point.
Aside from the ground game, the Titans’ passing attack was remarkably better in Green Bay. Ryan Tannehill had perhaps his best game of the year, showing tremendous accuracy by completing 22-of-27 passes for 333 yards.
If the Titans can continue this balanced offensive attack, along with their defensive excellence, they will be an extremely difficult team to beat.
