Odds: -22.5 Bulldogs
The Bulldogs head across the Sierra mountains to take on the Nevada Wolf pack. This will be the 54th meeting between these two programs. Fresno State will be coming into this one looking to win the West Division and clinch a spot in the Mountain West Championship game. Both of these scenarios can happen with a win over the Wolf Pack. For Nevada it has been a rebuilding year for them as they are still looking for their first conference win and looking to snap a eight game losing streak.
Control the game
The Bulldogs are going to put up points and the question will be does Nevada offense have enough firepower to keep up. The Bulldogs have scored 30 + in four straight games and the Wolf Pack havent scored more than 28 points in conference play. Fresno State should have no problem in this game if they are focused and ready to play. With that the Bulldogs need to get off to a fast start and control the tempo. Get the run game going and feed Jordan Mims. Control the clock and keep Nevada offense off the field. Don’t let the Wolf Pack hang around.
Third Down Defense
The Stats may look good for the Bulldogs but the Dogs have given up too many big and long yard plays on third down. Only three sacks combined in the last two games. The Bulldogs defense has improved over the season but if they can’t figure out a way to stop these long third down conversions it will hurt this team down the road. Look for the Bulldogs to bring more pressure on thirds down especially against a struggling offense like Nevada.
Jake Haener
Expect a big game from Jake Haener. Nevada’s defense is giving up 30 points per game and has given 37 total touchdowns. The Bulldogs offense has been at another level with Haener at the helm. In the three games that Haener has been back in he has thrown for 1,034 and nine touchdowns. Most importantly they have gone 3-0 in those games. With the division title on the line and a rivalry game Haener is poised once again to have another big game.
Predictions
The Bulldogs have a chance to win the west division and clinch a spot in the Mountain West Title game. Nevada has a chance to play spoiler and keep San Diego State and San Jose State hopes at the west division alive. The Bulldogs offense is going to be too much for this Nevada defense. The Bulldogs should roll in this one.
