Nike’s Phil Knight says Kyrie Irving ‘stepped over the line’

Nike’s partnership with Kyrie Irving is likely over according to Phil Knight.

Following the Brooklyn Nets’ decision to suspend Kyrie Irving indefinitely without pay for his failure to disavow antisemitism, Nike announced it had suspended its relationship with Irving and called off the launch of the new Kyrie 8 shoe, which was originally scheduled to release in November.

Nike’s original statement left room for the company to eventually resume its partnership with Irving — but, according to Nike co-founder Phil Knight, that is unlikely to happen.

In a conversation with CNBC, Knight said the he doubts Nike would “go back” with Irving.

Via ESPN:

“Kyrie stepped over the line. It’s kind of that simple. He made some statements that we just can’t abide by and that’s why we ended the relationship. And I was fine with that.”
