Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report suggested in his article on Sunday that the Brooklyn Nets should ‘Get Anything You Can for Kyrie Irving’. Brooklyn has not had the best start to this season (4-7) and with the firing of Steve Nash and the suspension of Irving, it makes sense if the Nets explored trades for the controversial superstar – if any team would risk taking him.
Irving is currently serving an indefinite suspension, one the NBPA is expected to appeal, according to Jaylen Brown. It was once thought that Irving could be a Los Angeles Laker at some point, but even the Lakers have been reported as having ‘significant concerns‘ with adding Irving.
Swartz goes on to say that the Nets should not trade Irving with the intent of tanking, but more to get something for him before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
“While the temptation to tear everything down and start over is there, the Nets don’t control any of their first-round picks until 2028. Tanking this season would only benefit the Houston Rockets, who get the right to swap 2023 first-rounders if they’d like.
Instead, the Nets should focus on trading Kyrie Irving before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
There should be no intention to bring back the veteran guard following a disastrous three-plus seasons in Brooklyn, and teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat could still covet his services.”
