Report: Ryan Tannehill to travel with Titans, still uncertain to play

Ryan Tannehill will travel with the team to Kansas City, but his status remains up in the air.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill will reportedly travel with the team when it heads to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs in Week 9.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Tannehill, who is listed as questionable with an ankle injury, will travel with the team, something he didn’t do when he was ruled out in Week 8.

However, what wasn’t in Rapoport’s report was confirmation that the veteran signal-caller will indeed play. On Friday, head coach Mike Vrabel basically said Tannehill was a game-time decision.

During the week, Tannehill admitted he’d likely have to play through pain if he does suit up, something that is very concerning behind the Titans’ offensive line, which has been inconsistent in pass protection.

If the offensive line falters with a banged-up Tannehill under center, he might be a sitting duck thanks to his injury.

If Tannehill doesn’t play, rookie quarterback Malik Willis will take his spot. Willis was ineffective in Week 8, but the Titans still managed to beat the Houston Texans via their rushing attack.

That is unlikely to work in Week 9 against the Chiefs, but stranger things have happened.

Whether it’s Tannehill or Willis under center, the Titans and Chiefs will kickoff at 8:20 p.m. ET on “Sunday Night Football”.
