Patrick Mahomes not taking Titans lightly: ‘They beat our [expletive]’ in 2021

Patrick Mahomes hasn’t forgotten about his 2021 meeting with the Titans.

While the Tennessee Titans are heavy underdogs to the Kansas City Chiefs going into Week 9, it wasn’t long ago that the Titans soundly beat the Chiefs in a regular-season matchup.

In their 2021 meeting, the Titans’ defense stifled the Chiefs, and the offense did the rest en route to a convincing 27-3 win — and it’s a game Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t forgotten.

Not only did Mahomes reference the game on Wednesday, he also made it clear he isn’t taking the Titans lightly, which many are doing because of the ugly nature of their 5-2 start.

“Last year, we weren’t ready and they beat our [expletive],” Mahomes said. “This team is a lot better than [people] talk about them. People don’t talk about their D-line.”

It’s true that the Titans’ defensive line has flown under the radar nationally despite being one of the best units in the NFL, but obviously Mahomes has seen the damage the group upfront can do first hand, hence the quote.

That said, the biggest issue for Tennessee has been its offense, which has struggled mightily to move the ball through the air.

If that doesn’t change in Week 9, anything short of a perfect effort from the Titans’ defense and rushing attack will likely lead to a loss.
