Things certainly didn’t go as planned for Josh McDaniels and the Raiders in Week 8 as they were shut out by the Saints. It was their ugliest loss of the season as they were never competitive in the game.
Now, the Raiders sit at 2-5 on the season and their odds of making the playoffs have tanked. With the AFC currently having six teams with five or more wins, it appears unlikely that the Raiders will be back in the playoffs.
So how likely is it that the Raiders could earn a top-five pick in 2023? It’s becoming even more likely by the week. According to Tankathon, the Raiders would own the No. 6 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft if the season ended today.
If they were to lose against the Jaguars in Week 9, they could easily move inside the top four and could even have a chance at a top-three pick. While certainly, no one is rooting for them to lose (yet), this is a roster that could use an influx of young talent.
The NFL season is still not even at its midway point yet and there is a lot of football to be played. But the Raiders are playing like one of the worst teams in the NFL through Week 8.
