With the Nov. 1 trade deadline rapidly approaching, experts from different media outlets have begun suggesting trades for teams, including the Tennessee Titans.
We previously covered Pro Football Focus’ Mike Renner suggesting the Titans trade for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool, which would make sense with Tennessee’s need at the position.
The only problem was that Renner had the Titans giving up a pair of Day 2 picks, which is far too much for Claypool, whose stock is at an all-time low.
Now, we turn to the trade suggestion from Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr, who wants to see the Titans trade for Cleveland Browns running back, Kareem Hunt. Here’s his take:
The Titans could outduel the Rams for Hunt, a versatile backfield threat who had a comfortable hold on the Browns’ passing-down role for a while. He’d be a capable checkdown option for Ryan Tannehill, whose running backs are second and third, respectively, on his target list. Hunt can add another big body to the backfield to help the Titans grind down opponents and bolster the play-action game for Tannehill.
While Hunt would be a great addition for any team in the NFL thanks to his versatility and playmaking ability, this trade would make no sense for Tennessee.
Granted, he doesn’t possess the talent Hunt does, but Dontrell Hilliard has done a good enough job as the team’s primary pass-catching back that the Titans don’t need to pull the trigger on this kind of trade.
Adding to that, Tennessee spent a 2022 draft pick on Hassan Haskins to help spell Derrick Henry, and Hunt would only be a rental, as he’s set to hit free agency in 2023, which is a reason why the Browns could move him.
If the Titans are going to give up assets to acquire a player ahead of the NFL trade deadline, they should be looking at two positions that are of much greater need in wide receiver and offensive line.
