Where Oregon’s defense ranks nationally after impressive showing vs. UCLA

The numbers don’t paint Oregon’s defense as dominant, but the check-mark in the win column is all that matters in the end.

One thing has remained true for most of the Oregon Ducks’ 2022 season: The defensive stats aren’t always pretty, but they generally get the job done.

That was true for Saturday’s 45-30 win over the UCLA Bruins. Oregon did a good job shutting down an impressive offense that featured quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson, running back Zach Charbonnet and wide receiver Jake Bobo. Those three still earned their numbers. Thompson-Robinson had 262 yards and 2 touchdowns. Charbonnet rushed for 152 yards and a TD. Bobo hauled in 8 passes for 101 yards and a TD.

But the Ducks’ defense came out on top, forcing UCLA to settle for field goals while Bo Nix and the offense kept churning out touchdowns.

Time and again this season, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning has remarked that his team doesn’t care about stats, but whether there is a check in the win column.

That’s all well and good, but we still like to look at the stats to see where this Oregon defense ranks nationally. Here is an updated look after Saturday’s game:
