The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost another disappointing game Sunday to the Carolina Panthers, but they also lost one of their best defenders.
Pro Bowl safety Antoine Winfield Jr. left Sunday’s game in the third quarter and was unable to return after being evaluated for a concussion.
Speaking to the media Monday, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles confirmed that Winfield has a concussion, and it unlikely to play Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens.
With veteran Logan Ryan already on injured reserve following foot surgery, the Bucs will be extremely thin at safety Thursday night, with little depth and experience behind Mike Edwards and Keanu Neal. Winfield’s absence will also force the Bucs to find another solution in nickel situations, as Winfield has typically played in the slot this season.
