Florida remains outside AP top 25 in post-Week 8 update

The Gators didn’t play this week, so it’s unsurprising to see Florida without a vote in the AP Top 25 once again.

After falling to LSU a week ago, Florida found itself without any votes in the Associated Press Top 25. A bye week meant that the Gators couldn’t prove themselves on the field for at least two weeks, and the team stayed in a holding pattern, finishing without any votes for the second straight week.

While UF stayed put this week, there was still plenty of movement in the top 25. The top six remain the sam, but the back half of the top 10 consists of five teams on the rise (and not in the SEC or Big Ten). Ole Miss was this week’s big loser, falling eight spots to No. 15 following a loss to now No. 18 LSU.

As far as the rest of the SEC goes, Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama are at the top at Nos. 1, 3 and 6, respectively. Kentucky is just behind LSU at No. 19, and South Carolina rounds out the top 25. Mississippi State received 10 votes and Arkansas had 1.

Florida State was the only program from the Sunshine State to receive a vote in this week’s poll, but one vote isn’t much to celebrate. Utah, Florida’s opponent in the season opener, sits at No. 14 with a 5-2 record.

There’s an argument for Florida to break back into the top 25 down the road with wins over Texas A&M, South Carolina and Florida State, but it’ll take a 4-1 finish to the season for the Gators to even have a chance at ending the season with number by their name.
