When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted former Memphis speedster Calvin Austin III in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft, most agreed they got a steal. Despite being a little slight, Austin was the focus of the Memphis passing offense and his speed set him apart from others in the draft class.
But now it seems less and less likely Austin will play as a rookie. Austin has been on IR all season with a foot injury and the clock is ticking for Austin to play this year or head back to IR.
Austin has less than a week to be activated to the 53-man roster or else he cannot play this season and it doesn’t sound like he’s anywhere close to far enough along to do that.
What does this mean? The biggest takeaway would be if Austin cannot play it makes it much harder for the Steelers to trade a guy like Chase Claypool. Will Austin play this season? Cast your vote and let us know.
