The Kansas City Chiefs fell short on Sunday to the Buffalo Bills adding another chapter in the rivalry between the two franchises.
The game ended on the second interception of the day from Patrick Mahomes, who dropped another round in his duel with friend and fellow star quarterback Josh Allen. The loss may have playoff ramifications later in the season, but it exposed several things the Chiefs need to improve. That ranges from the injuries affecting the secondary to the poor running back play and offensive line struggles.
Speaking to Carrington Harrison on 610 Sports Radio show “The Drive” for his weekly check-in, Mahomes revealed how he believes the Bills’ loss will make the Chiefs better.
“When you play another great team, if you’re not going to execute at a high level, you lose those games,” said Mahomes. “It’ll be good for us to learn from — everybody on the team — because that’s going to be a team if we want to get to the Super Bowl we’re probably going to have to play them again.”
The battle between the two-star quarterbacks always takes center stage during these matchups. Mahomes and Allen put up big numbers on Sunday and had yet another competitive finish. Mahomes, however, wants to avoid comparing their rivalry to the great games between Peyton Manning and Tom Brady in the 2000s.
“We’re two guys that love to compete. We love to go out there and find a way to will our team to win, but (Tom) Brady and (Peyton) Manning, we still got a long way to go,” said Mahomes.“Brady and Manning didn’t become [them] until the latter part of their careers because they’d already won so much championships and MVPs and stuff like that. I think you can ask Josh [Allen] the same thing. We see that we could be there, but we still have a long way to go to put ourselves on that pedestal.”
The outcome of the 2022 NFL season could go a long way toward helping cement those legacies for either Allen or Mahomes. It’s just a matter of which one will make their way to the big game for the AFC conference.
