Straight-up NFL Picks, Week 6: Deciphering Bills-Chiefs and buying back on Bill Belichick?

Two potential conference title game previews highlight Week 6, including Buffalo-Kansas City and Cowboys-Eagles.

Week 5 was an amazing week for upsets I didn’t have the guts to actually pick.

Take the game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans for example. I noted how taking the Jaguars seemed like the easiest pick of the week and how, for four straight weeks, that instinct has been explicitly and completely wrong. I even noted how weird the Texans-Jags rivalry has been, with Jacksonville sitting at 4-19 against its AFC South rival since 2011 and winless in its last eight games against them.

Well, now the Jaguars have lost nine straight against the Texans and all three of us picking games at FTW took a dumb, ugly L as well.

There was also the matter of the Green Bay Packers, who I singled out as a tough favorite to back despite a 9.5-point spread, then chose anyway. Did the Giants shred their tissue-soft run defense? Yep! Did Aaron Rodgers suffer from a lack of targets? Sure did. Did my trepidation over taking a near 10-point underdog cost me a win? Also yes.

Now’s my opportunity to learn from that — and take entirely too many road teams to win straight up.
