Penn State falls in Week 7 AP Top 25

This week’s AP Top 25 has a new look after Week 7 with Tennessee climbing and Penn State, USC, and Oklahoma State falling out of the top 10.

Following a pretty eventful weekend of college football, Penn State found itself the odd man out on competing on a high level in some of the biggest games on the schedule. As a result, the voters in the Associated Press top 25 have dropped the Nittany Lions in the updated AP Top 25 following Week 7’s results.

Penn State has dropped six spots in the latest AP poll, falling from No. 10 to No. 16 following their blowout loss on the road at Michigan. The Wolverines moved up one spot in the AP poll thanks in part to Alabama suffering its first loss of the season. The team Alabama lost to actually jumped ahead of the Wolverines, with Tennessee climbing to No. 3 this week behind No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Ohio State. Tennessee moved up three spots following their exhilarating victory over the Crimson Tide.

The rise of the Vols also bumped Clemson down one spot to No. 5, followed by Alabama at No. 6. Ole Miss, TCU, UCLA, and Oregon complete this week’s new-look top 10 with Penn State, Oklahoma State, and USC all falling out this week.

Illinois is the fourth Big Ten team in this week’s AP Top 25. The Illini moved up six spots to No. 18 after making their AP Top 25 debut last week. Illinois made its debut in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll this week after their 5-1 start with a win over Minnesota.
