Awful news hit the surface on Wednesday evening, as DNVRsports in Colorado reported Colorado State’s Isaiah Stevens will undergo surgery for a broken foot soon. The Rams are in a precarious position while the standout guard recovers from his devastating injury which doesn’t have a timetable for return as of now. Stevens helped Colorado State secure a sixth-seed in last seasons NCAA Tournament thanks to his 14.7 points and 4.7 assists per contest.

What does this mean for Colorado State?

The one spot Rams fans could put in sharpie as a consistent contributor was point guard. With the injury, it leaves Tavi Jackson and Baylor Hebb as the only true point guards on the roster. Jackson, a freshman from Las Vegas is someone many see as the guy once Stevens career in Fort Collins comes to a close, but desperate times call for desperate measures and it’s time to call Jackson into action. The 6-foot-1 guard from Vegas has some pretty impressive lateral quickness and vertical athleticism that’ll bring the fans in Moby arena to their feet. Hebb hardly played after transferring from Loyola Chicago, but averaged 3.8 points for the Ramblers two seasons ago.

The Rams already lost 2021-22 Mountain West player of the year, David Roddy, who the Memphis Grizzlies spent a first round pick on. Now, Roddy is gone, Stevens is out for some time and Chandler Jacobs, Kendle Moore and Dischon Thomas also moved on. It’ll be different looking team than the 25 win team from last season.

As a whole, Colorado State John Tonje likely leads the team in scoring until Stevens returns. An at large bid seems unlikely at this point, but if Niko Medved can return his star guard before conference tournament time — anything is possible.
