Texas offense faces a difficult test against Iowa State’s defense

If Quinn Ewers and company are patient, they should win a close game with Iowa State.

The Texas Longhorns scored at will last week. That might not be the case against Iowa State.

The Cyclones did a number on Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian last year, defeating the Longhorns 30-7 in Ames. The game was a continuation of Sarkisian’s struggles against three safety defenses.

This year, Sarkisian could have pinpoint accuracy at his disposal with Quinn Ewers. Even so, that alone won’t guarantee success for Texas.

Iowa State famously gave Spencer Rattler fits in his first matchup with Jon Heacock’s defense. Heacock will likely try to force the redshirt freshman quarterback into surprise turnovers, and has the defensive weapons to make it happen.

The Cyclones have lost two Big 12 games this year by a combined 4 points. They allowed 14 points to Kansas and 10 points to Kansas State in losses to each team.

The challenge for Texas is their ability to be patient and willing to drive the field. If they can do that, the Longhorns should be able to win a close game.
