Watch: A magpie and monitor lizard play through a foursome on an Australian golf course

Innes got his camera out but didn’t expect what would happen next.

Michael Innes was enjoying time with friends on the 13th green at Rowes Bay Golf Club, which sits along the northeastern coast of Australia in the city of Townsville, when he spotted a monitor lizard, also referred to as a goanna.

Innes got his camera out but didn’t expect what would happen next. A magpie swooped in and challenged the dangerous animal while Innes and his playing partners calmly watched the incident.

“I started to film the goanna for some kids back home that I thought would love to see this big lizard and then the magpie flew over my left shoulder and the rest is captured on the video,” Innes told Storyful.
