Tennessee hosted Wake Forest Sunday in a fall exhibition game at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
The Vols and Demon Deacons played 18 innings. After 18 innings, Tennessee led 13-9.
Following the exhibition game, sixth-year Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello discussed his team’s pitching performance.
“I think Doe (Chase Dollander) looked good and (Drew) Beam always seems to fill up the zone, and kind of, you know, every now and then gets some bad swings too.
“I think for our guys, just getting them out there and seeing them against a good opponent, Wake is usually one of the best offenses in the country, was just good in general. It’s nice to have stuff to talk about tomorrow, whether it’s video review or just making some bullet points. We’ve got to get better at some things, and some of it, again, is by nature of you are starting the fall and you want to increase repetitions with offspeed pitches and things like that. It’s an easy answer to say, just getting out there and facing a really good opponent.”
The contest against Wake Forest is the first of two fall exhibition games for Tennessee.
The Vols will play Memphis Nov. 6 in Jackson, Tennessee (2 p.m. EDT).
