Arkansas Football: Sam Pittman still has concerns for his defense

The passing defense improved, but Arkansas’ rushing defense fell as the Hogs continued to struggle.

Last season, the Arkansas Razorbacks had one of the worst pass rush defenses in the SEC. That problem has been fixed as they currently second in the country behind Cincinnati with 21 sacks, one less than their season total from a year ago.

Despite the growth in the pass rush, head coach, Sam Pittman is still concerned about his defense.

“We just have to continue to work on it,” he said. “Man-coverage has been a problem for us, especially if we don’t get to the quarterback. We just have to continue to be in position better. ”

We have to take into account the injuries but as we enter conference play for the rest of the season, that excuse is wearing thin. The fourth quarter display from Arkansas’s defense against Alabama was embarrasing and it wasn’t becuase of the pass covereage.

A total of 225 yards and two touchdowns came from three Arkansas rushing plays. And the worst part about it, the rushers went untouched.

Pittman and the rest of the staff have to find a soulution for the defense before things become worst.

“Certainly the explosive plays, we’ve got to limit them,” Pittman said. “We have to be comfortable with keeping them in front of us and hoping we can have a pass break-up, get a guy on the ground. Our tackling in our secondary woes has got to improve.”
