The Green Bay Packers (2-1) can extend the win streak to three games when the New England Patriots (1-2) roll into Lambeau Field without starting quarterback Mac Jones on Sunday.
Here’s how the staff at Packers Wire believes the Week 4 showdown against the Patriots will go down:
Zach Kruse (1-2): Packers 28, Patriots 17
This prediction business isn’t going so well to start the 2022 season, but a Packers win feels like a safe bet here against a backup quarterback at Lambeau Field. The Patriots have the run game and pass-rush to make this a tough, physical battle, and you can bet Bill Belichick will have a wrinkle or two ready for Aaron Rodgers, but Green Bay is dominating on defense and improving along the offensive line, and the offense showed enough flashes early in the game last week to think the group is close to having it all click. The guess here is that the Packers start fast, dictate the game throughout and coast to a win against a team that gave up 37 points and turned the ball over four times last week.
Brandon Carwile (2-1): Packers 27, Patriots 13
With Mac Jones hurt, the Packers will face Brian Hoyer on Sunday, which my actually be a good thing for the Patriots. Jones has not been able to take care of the ball this season, throwing 5 interceptions through the first three games. Like Green Bay, New Englands has starting-caliber two running backs they may try to lean. The Packers’ defense needs to come ready to tackle in this one. Offensively, Green Bay shouldn’t try to get cute against Bill Belichick. They should lean on their playmakers while avoiding turnovers. There’s no reason the Packers shouldn’t win this one by double digits.
Paul Bretl (2-1): Packers 20, Patriots 10
You never truly know what to expect going up against Bill Belichick, but we do know he will try to take away what’s important to the opposing offense, which for the Packers is the run game. Regardless of the results, the Packers will need to remain patient with the run game, and the emphasis on it from New England, along with their heavy man-coverage scheme, could create opportunities in the passing game for Aaron Rodgers, as long as he has time in the pocket going up against Matthew Judon and Deatrich Wise. Defensively, the Packers should be prepared for a heavy dose of Patriots’ running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and Damien Harris. Slowing the run should be the Packers’ main objective, which will then put Brian Hoyer in obvious passing situations, allowing the Green Bay pass rush to wreak some havoc. The Packers are the more talented team and should control this game, but Belichick and his defense will keep it somewhat close.
Brennen Rupp (2-1): Packers 20, Patriots 9
The Packers are favored by 9.5 and I’d expect the Packers to cover that spread. You can never count out a team coached by Bill Belichick, but this isn’t a vintage Patriots team. The Hoodie and his team are walking into Lambeau Field outgunned. I expect New England’s defense to make enough stops to keep them close, but Green Bay’s defense should be up for the task of slowing down Brian Hoyer and New England’s offense. Give me the Packers by double digits.
