With the shocking suspension of Ime Udoka and the subsequent promotion of Joe Mazzulla to the role of interim head coach, the Boston Celtics are rebuilding their coaching staff on the fly. The season tips off in just a few weeks, and, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston could look to add a familiar face to the sideline before then.
Woj is reporting Boston is seeking permission from the Los Angeles Clippers to chat with former assistant Jay Larranaga about possibly joining the Celtics bench. Larranaga was with Boston for nine seasons before joining LA last year.
The 47-year old Larranaga first took a job with the Celtics in 2012. He was a top candidate to replace head coach Doc Rivers before the position was ultimately offered to Brad Stevens. For nearly the next decade, Larranaga turned down collegiate head coaching opportunities to remain a Celtics assistant.

Larranaga served as a top advisor to Brad Stevens for seven seasons. That experience helped him land a new assistant gig with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Now, perhaps, Larranaga will once against be serving Stevens in Boston as a trusted ally.
