Celtics’ Robert Williams III sidelined 4-6 weeks following knee procedure

Robert Williams III will undergo a clean-up procedure on his left knee, and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks of action.

Boston Celtics big man Robert Williams III will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee, according to multiple reports. Williams suffered a meniscus tear last spring in that same knee.

Williams is expected to miss 4-6 weeks of action, and will miss all of Celtics training camp and preseason, Heavy reported. Upon his return to the court following his initial meniscus tear last spring, the 24-year-old Williams dealt with several complications, though he did manage to play through the setbacks.

The procedure is aimed at “cleaning up” his injured knee according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Williams may miss the beginning of the regular season but should be back sooner rather than later.

This injury will make Boston’s crowded training camp even more interesting. Veterans Noah Vonleh and Justin Jackson will compete with Bruno Caboclo and others for a chance to crack Boston’s big man rotation. Williams’ absence will also add extra pressure to Luke Kornet, who is already on the team.

Timelord’s injury could also impact ongoing extension negotiations between the Celtics and Grant Williams. Regardless, though, expect Williams to be back in action sooner rather than later.
