An Elden Ring board game is in the works from Steamforged Games, makers of the Dark Souls board game and Resident Evil 2 board game. Steamforged announced the game in a press release (via GamesRadar) and also plans to launch a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign at a later, unspecified date.
“Elden Ring is a stunning, genre-defining video game, and we are humbled and privileged to be bringing it to your tabletops,” Steamforged’s chief creative officer Matt Hart said in the press release. ”Fans should expect a dark, richly-realized tabletop world of mystery and peril, with satisfying combat and rewarding exploration. Prepare to lose hours to this game, and to be glad about it.”
The Elden Ring board game features miniature figures of some of the popular RPG’s most iconic characters, including Margit the Fell Omen, Godrick the Grafted, and likely other bosses as well – though probably not Pingu. Unlike many tabletop RPGs of its kind, it won’t use dice. Steamforged wants players to “strategize and adapt their plans during each encounter” – so, just like the video game version of Elden Ring, then.
Steamforged also said the world will unfold as players travel across the board, though the team is keeping the specifics about what that actually means to themselves right now.
Sherwin Matthews, the project’s lead designer, told Wargamer the adaptation will appeal to fans of the original game and tabletop fans who’ve never played FromSoftware’s hit RPG. Expect more details to surface once the game’s Kickstarter campaign goes live.
