Florida drop in AP Poll after close, but uninspiring, win over USF

The Florida Gators drop in the AP Poll after a close win against the USF Bulls at home in Week 3 as they head into their SEC schedule.

The Florida Gators come in at No. 20 in the latest AP Poll after sneaking by the USF Bulls in a 31-28 home victory.

The Orange and Blue started the season unranked but jumped to No. 12 after beating then No. 7 Utah Utes in a thrilling 29-26 victory in [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag]’s first game as Florida head coach. They then dropped to No. 18 after losing to Kentucky in their SEC opener 26-16.

The Gators’ performance against USF did not inspire confidence in the fan base or the AP voters, who felt Florida’s performance wasn’t worthy of keeping them at No. 18, where they had the Gators last week. Paired together with the Gators’ loss to Kentucky in Week 2, the questions about Florida’s leap from unranked (and not receiving votes) to a top-15 ranking after Week 1 still remain.

Other notable AP rankings include Georgia and Alabama maintaining their No. 1 & No. 2 respective rankings, Arkansas staying at No. 10, BYU dropping to No. 19 after losing to Oregon, Tennessee continuing their rise, jumping up to No. 11, and Miami dropping to No. 25 after their road loss to Texas A&M.

The Florida Gators will go on the road to face the Tennessee Volunteers in the CBS Game of the Week. ESPN announced Sunday that College Gameday will make its first trip to Knoxville since 2016 to cover the game. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EDT.
