The Denver Broncos played a sloppy game against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1, committing 12 penalties in a 17-16 loss.
Playing on the road in a loud stadium, the Broncos were penalized three times for false starts and twice for delay of game.
“We have no excuses,” coach Nathaniel Hackett said after the game. “That’s what we preach. Got to be sure we get the play in and can get it called and get the guys rolling. I know it was definitely loud, but, again, that’s no excuse. We’ve got to be better.”
Denver’s defense was also undisciplined, with unnecessary roughness, roughing the passer and taunting penalties all called in the season opener.
“We can pull those back for sure,” Hackett said. “Those are big chunks of yards that kept drives alive. So we just got to make sure we keep our wits about us. One thing we talked about coming here is we had to be sure we controlled our emotions, and there were too many times we didn’t, and that hurt us.”
The Broncos are 0-1, but many of their mistakes on Monday — like sloppy penalties — are mistakes that can be corrected going forward. That will be a goal for the team going into Week 2.
