Seahawks fans booing Russell Wilson in his return to Seattle was just so incredibly lame

This was such a bad look for a lot of Seahawks fans. Yuck.

The final game of the first week of the 2022 NFL season was a special one, with Russell Wilson making his Denver Broncos debut in a stadium that he called home for his entire career before being traded during the offseason.

You have to hand it to the NFL schedule makers for having Russ and the Broncos take on Pete Carroll and the Seahawks in Seattle on Monday Night Football in Week 1. It was a brilliant move that only added more spice to the great soap opera that is the National Football League.

You know who you don’t have to hand it to, though? The Seahawks fans who booed Wilson when he ran out of the tunnel before the game and then when he ran onto the field for his first series. It was an incredibly lame thing to do and those fans were rightfully mocked by a lot of people on social media for doing such a dumb thing.

How do you boo the best quarterback in your franchise’s history?

How do you boo a guy who won you your first and only Super Bowl and would have won another if the coaching staff would have just opted to hand the ball off to Marshawn Lynch on 2nd and goal from the 1 yard line?

How do you boo a guy who won 10 or more games in eight of his 10 seasons with your team?

How do you boo a guy who did so many good things off the field in the Seattle area?

The proper thing would have been to give him a standing ovation when he ran out of the tunnel and again when he first ran on the field for the first series. Then when the game began he became an opponent and you could boo all you want. But the dude deserved better than what he got. A lot better.

It was all just an incredibly bad look by a fanbase that loves to scream about how good they are. Not every Seahawks fan booed him, of course, and good for those smart people who didn’t. But a lot of others did and they should feel silly about themselves this morning.

Wilson gave everything he had to the franchise during his time in Seattle. Things didn’t end the way he or the fans might have wanted it to but most of that blame falls on Carroll and Co. for not doing the right things to make him want to finish his career in the Pacific Northwest.

Booing a legendary player who brought you so many good times just because he wanted things to be better for him is not cool at all. It’s sad.

Those 12s who booed last night acted more like 2s, as in 2 year olds.
